Commissioning of a mobile wheel lathe for metro wheelsets in Lima, Peru
As part of the implementation of a project for the launch of a mobile wheel lathe for the Metro system in Lima, Peru, our company’s team carried out the installation, setup, and commissioning of the equipment at the Línea 1 del Metro de Lima depot, as well as training of the customer’s personnel.
🛠 The following works were performed within the project:
— adaptation of the equipment to the customer’s site conditions, wheel profiles, and bogie geometry;
— adjustment of machining modes for wheelsets with and without traction motors using a friction drive rotation system;
— wheel reprofiling and profile control measurements;
— comprehensive training for operators and technical personnel of the customer.
👨🔧 After trial machining and profile measurements, the equipment was commissioned, and the customer’s personnel started independent operation.
Key advantages of such solutions:
✔️ Installation on existing depot infrastructure without major reconstruction;
✔️ Fast commissioning;
✔️ High-precision wheel reprofiling with profile control;
✔️ Technology transfer and on-site personnel training.
📌 The project for Línea 1 del Metro de Lima once again demonstrates that mobile solutions can be effectively applied not only on railways, but also in metro depots.
On‑site wheel turning of a tourist tram in Rio de Janeiro: efficiency in motion!
We’re excited to share a recent project where we performed wheel turning for a tourist tram right on the tracks in Rio de Janeiro — no need to dismantle or transport the vehicle!
Key details of the operation: Depth of cut per pass: 2 mm (4 mm reduction in diameter). Equipment: our portable single‑side lathe WST 83.00 series which has 83 kg. Vehicle weight: 11 tons. Our WST 83.00 is capable of deeper cuts, but we optimised the depth to 2 mm to prevent the tram from vibrating or “bouncing” during the process because of really small weight (only 11 tons). This adjustment ensured a smooth and safe operation while maintaining high efficiency.
Commissioning of a mobile wheel lathe for tram wheelsets in Iași, Romania
As part of a project to launch a mobile wheel lathe for machining tram wheelsets in Iași, Romania, the team of New Lathe Technologies LTDA carried out equipment installation at the depot of Compania de Transport Public Iași (CPT), commissioning, and customer personnel training.
The project included adapting the equipment to the specifics of tram rolling stock manufactured by Bozankaya (Turkey), as well as to the depot operating conditions.
🛠 As part of the project, the following activities were completed:
— adaptation of the equipment to the tram wheel profile and bogie geometry;
— setup of machining modes for tram wheelsets;
— installation and alignment of the equipment at the working site;
— trial machining and control measurements of the wheel profile;
— training of operators and technical personnel of the customer.
👨🔧 After trial machining and measurements, the equipment was put into operation, and the customer’s personnel began independent work.
What is particularly important for such projects:
✔️ Ability to operate within an existing depot without major reconstruction;
✔️ Fast commissioning;
✔️ High-precision reprofiling with profile control;
✔️ On-site technology transfer and personnel training.
📌 The project for CPT demonstrated that mobile solutions can be effectively applied not only on railways but also in tram depots, where space and infrastructure constraints are often present.
Delivery and commissioning of a freight wagon wheelset reprofiling system at DBCC Transport S.A., Montevideo, Uruguay
As part of a joint project with DBCC Transport S.A., specialists from New Lathe Technologies LTDA completed the assembly, setup, and commissioning of a technological system for reprofiling dismounted freight wagon wheelsets. The system was designed in accordance with the customer's infrastructure requirements.
📐 The structure was adapted to a specific axlebox support model, ensuring precise positioning of the wheel lathe units.
🔧 As part of the project completion, the following activities were carried out:
- Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) conducted jointly with a DBCC Transport representative at the company’s facility in Curitiba, Brazil;
- Preparation and transportation of the equipment to the DBCC Transport site near Montevideo, Uruguay;
- Installation of the equipment by company specialists at the future operating site;
- System commissioning and testing under various wheelset machining modes;
- Training of DBCC Transport personnel for equipment operation.
During the implementation of this project, our company leveraged its expertise to adapt mobile solutions into a stationary wheelset reprofiling system.
📌 Uruguay marks a new stage in the expansion of our delivery geography and the implementation of mobile turning technologies in Latin America.
🚆 In early May, we participated in NT Expo 2025 — the largest railway event in Latin America, bringing together over 150 exhibitors and more than 5,000 industry professionals.
For New Lathe Technologies, this was more than just a product showcase. It became a platform for meaningful conversations about the future of wheelset maintenance and the technologies that are transforming rolling stock repair.
📌 Our WST83.00 mobile wheel lathes attracted strong interest from operators, engineers, and service providers across Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and other countries in the region.
Participating in NT Expo confirmed once again:
The market is actively looking for flexible, compact, and intelligent solutions that can be deployed quickly — without heavy infrastructure — while enabling precise wheel profile restoration and resource-efficient wheelset maintenance.
